Abstract

SaskEnergy is growing into its own in analytics by making data driven operations a key priority. As part of this, efforts are underway organization wide to increase the overall level of data maturity and grow the technical capabilities of the organization, both from a business user perspective and from a technology, architecture and data management perspective. Ryan’s talk is about his experience with building and managing a new Analytics team at SaskEnergy, highlight some key projects his team has worked on and show the long-term vision for their analytics practice. He will also help explain why agility, finding the right people and putting business value is the key to success for a new analytics and data warehousing teams.

Ryan Tessier, PhD | Manager, Analytics, SaskEnergy


Ryan Tessier likes hard problems. Across a number of fields and roles Ryan prides himself on his ability to take a complex problem, break it down into tangible steps and solve it. This dedication to problem solving has given Ryan the opportunity to do some pretty diverse things, such as obtaining his PhD in Mathematics, working in a machine learning research lab, building and managing an official Microsoft Azure training program, developing and implementing a post-secondary partnership model and, most recently, building an Analytics team and analytical infrastructure. Currently Ryan works as Manager of Analytics for SaskEnergy and in his spare time enjoys spending time with his 4 children, learning new things and digging into new datasets and data projects.
