"Begin-R : An Overview of the R Language for Data Analysis"

In recent years R has become one of the most popular and powerful languages for doing data analysis and visualization but reaching this level of reputation has actually been more than a decade in the making. In this introductory presentation the author will share his experiences and suggestions for learning R and how R can be leveraged by data professionals. Attendees will learn:
· A brief history of R
· The fundamentals of the R language,
· How to extend the language using open source packages
· How R can be an effective tool for shaping data and performing complex data analysis
This will include a step-by-step demonstration that goes from importing data into R to summarizing and visualizing the results.
Biography for Patrick Marchand
As a consultant for the past 20 years Patrick has seen a lot of data. He has designed and implemented applications, operational databases, data warehouses, and ETL solutions across a variety of industries. His insatiable curiosity and desire for quality and efficiency has continued to draw him to investigate new ways to build better solutions for his clients. In his journey into new forms of data visualizations and data manipulation, Patrick was exposed to R as a valuable and versatile tool to support data analysis within organizations. In this presentation he will share his experiences with R and how it fits in every data manager's toolkit.
